XANNY PART II

From the You'll Be Here EP, Xanny Part II is a continuation of Xanny. The tracks in general are a journey of accepting one's own doubt about their lives. In Xanny, the song ends with being okay with where you are, but in this track, the doubts and anxiety end up being accepted.
I feel like everyone tends to question the career path they take- even if it's something they are truly passionate about. This line questions that exact topic.
If you didn't know already, Xanny is slang for Xanax, which is an anti-anxiety medication. The repeating line of 'we don't need a xanny' is a direct reference to the repeating lines in Xanny and makes reference to anxiety being a vicious mental cycle.
Devoting your life to a single path at a young age is a scary idea to me. Growing up, I always thought it was a crazy to decide what you're going to do for the rest of your life while you develop in school.
The cycle repeats.
Whenever someone finally reaches a goal or obtains that thing they want, a lot of the time they still feel empty despite getting to the end. The 2nd half of this line makes reference to Pantomime from the aforementioned EP.
The cycle repeats (now with harmonies!!)
Sometimes you have to tell yourself that things are going to be okay. The 2nd half of the line makes fun of that notion, describing it as lying to yourself- like saying you can see sunlight when it's the dead of night.
The lines repeat, then takes more lines from Xanny as it builds up towards the chorus.
The chorus accepts that humans are very similar. Often, we are feeling the same way about a lot of things. We just don't always express it to one another. This is also the reason why the repeating lines are 'we don't need a Xanny' instead of the original 'I don't need a Xanny.'
Classic pessimism. Expresses how even when someone sticks around, they may not always fully be there for you.
The line is repeated with the same intent.
At the end, I finally give up and take a selfish standpoint saying YOU are all the same and breaking away from the cycle in a negative way. In the 2nd half of this line, I say that even when people stick around, I'll be the one to push them away.
